2025 edition
Summer in our region always brings the good stuff, but this year there is a real buzz in the air. New places to eat, sip, explore, unwind, and stay have popped up across our sunny backyard and each one adds its own charm.
Here is what is new across Nelson Tasman this summer.

Kiwi Spirit Distillery is gearing up to open a brand new cocktail bar where you can settle in for top notch cocktails, local beer and wine, and a fresh menu of changing specials every day from 12pm to 8pm this summer. The space is nearly ready and the team is putting the final touches on a line up that blends creative spirits with local flavours. Chef Thomas Vernay from the Cheeky Goat will be serving sensational food from the new food truck.

Ahi Mahi Sauna is about to open right on the banks of the Maitai River. Step into authentic wood fired heat and a space designed with real intention. Three bench levels, a calm foyer, and an outdoor deck for cool downs make every session feel like your own little ritual. It is a place for stillness, community, and a deep breath in the middle of our sunny backyard.

Locally roasted Pomeroy's Coffee will be pouring all day at Base Café. All the classics will be waiting for you. Eggs bennie with home-made silky hollandaise, with the option to add mushrooms or bacon or anything else you need to craft your perfect plate. You will be able to build your own brekkie too, maybe scrambled eggs with halloumi or a kranksy if that is your go to. Their world famous cheese scones and toasties will still hold their own for anyone chasing a quick bite before mountain biking, a skywire buzz or a quad biking adventure. Keep an eye on their Instagram for the latest specials.

Nestled in the heart of Nelson, Fanny's Pub is set to become the city’s newest gathering place. Inside you’ll find rustic charm, hearty soul food, wood-fired pizzas, and local brews flowing on tap. Whether you’re catching up with mates, discovering live music, or settling in for a relaxed night out, Fanny’s will feel like home from the first sip.

Doughtelier is serving up handcrafted doughnuts that hit the sweet spot every time. Small batch flavours, proper indulgence, and a line up that includes coffee, milkshakes, gelato, dairy-free sorbet, and ice drinks. If you want the inside word on when weekday trading kicks off, keep an eye on their Instagram. Doughnuts disappear fast, so swing by early and join the fun.

Domu Retreat brings a calm, thoughtful kind of luxury to Kaiteriteri. You are welcomed with genuine care by Sabina and Toby, settled into a room with either ocean or mountain views, and given the space to move at your own pace. Swim, stretch, sauna, read, wander, or simply rest. Meals are seasonal and beautifully prepared. Set between Kaiteriteri and Mārahau with full circle views of the ocean and the mountains, Domu is the perfect place to settle in, breathe, and simply be.
