Rug Making as Art

Use traditional hook and loop rug making techniques to create a mini artwork that you can either ‘wear’ as a badge or hang on your wall to admire aesthetically as an art work.

Students will leave class with a basic understanding and new awareness of various applications for the hook and loop technique, traditionally used to make rugs.

Uses are only limited by one's imagination! A few potential possibilities will be highlighted in class. including however not limited too... 'shaggy fashion'!

A fun and versatile technique that is suitable for all skill levels.

All sorts of materials (upcycled / recycled and new) can be used to create using the hook and loop technique.

For example: shredded damaged garments, leather swatches (upholstery), wool, string, shoe laces, ribbon, shredded tyre inner tubing and soft plastics, etc.... the list goes on.

Students will create their own simple work, for example - a basic landscape, stylised 'logo' and / or as you may desire and / or imagine. Bring your ideas to class. Take away future ideas and applications, ranging from however not limited to the creation of a wall hanging peice of art or a functioning rug for your floor!
