The Centre for Fine Woodworking is the only dedicated school of fine woodworking and furniture making in New Zealand. We offer the highest quality of tuition available and are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and passing on the time-honoured craft to future generations of craftspeople. We offer a varied programme of short courses which caters for every skill level from absolute beginners to experienced woodworkers - our courses do not offer a formal qualification and so our students come from all walks of life with one thing in common - to grow their woodworking skill level whether that be for a hobby or for professional development.

The school is located in beautiful north Nelson and offers students an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the art and practice of fine woodworking, in a world–class facility under the guidance of highly experienced tutors and internationally renowned woodworkers.

We take pride in offering a wide selection of courses suited to all skill levels. We offer weekend workshops, project-based short courses for beginners and intermediate level, an 8–week Beginners’ Intensive, carving classes and a full time Furniture Makers’ Programme.
