Mapua Wharf

The Mapua Wharf is one of Nelson Tasman’s most popular dining, shopping and recreation attractions, overlooking the picturesque Waimea Estuary.

Originally a fruit-shipping port, the old cool-store buildings are now home to a number of restaurants, wine bars, breweries, galleries and giftshops. A pedestrian-only zone gives the wharf a relaxed vibe and provides ample opportunity for visitors to enjoy the flavours, scenery and artisan offerings on offer in this special place.

During the summer months, you’ll find adventurous souls jumping from the wharf into the tidal current below, whilst all year round people dine alfresco by the sea, indulge in some boutique shopping or set off on the cycle trail that weaves through the village.

How to get there: There is a carpark just before you reach the wharf, at the end of Aranui Road in Mapua. If travelling by bike, a cycle ferry connects the wharf with Rabbit Island on Tasman’s Great Taste Trail.
