Nelson Tasman flavours celebrated
The Cuisine Good Food Guide 2025, presented by American Express, has just landed this August, and seven Nelson Tasman restaurants have made the cut.
That’s seven reasons to raise a glass and celebrate the talent, passion and creativity bubbling away in NZ’s best-kept foodie secret.
It’s where you’ll find the best eats across the country, from fine dining to hidden gems and neighbourhood favourites. So to see our local restaurants recognised alongside the very best is a real pat on the back for the people behind the plates.
It’s no secret that hospitality has had its fair share of challenges in recent years, but these restaurants prove that determination, innovation and love for local flavours continue to thrive here. Whether you’re chasing a leisurely long lunch overlooking Tasman Bay, a buzzing evening with friends, or a night of refined flavours that leave you inspired, you’ll find it all in Nelson Tasman.
Here’s the roll call of our region’s stars in the Cuisine Good Food Guide 2025.
Since 2005, Hopgood’s & Co. has been setting the bar for dining in Nelson. Housed in a restored heritage building, it’s where seasonal produce and clever cooking shine in a relaxed setting. Chef Kevin Hopgood draws on London fine-dining experience, but it’s local flavours that take centre stage. From pāua dumplings with XO butter to a twice-baked cheese soufflé, the menu balances comfort and creativity. End on a sweet note with the famous treacle pudding and miso milk ice cream.
Hopgood’s first received a Cuisine Good Food Guide Hat in 2022, when it was awarded two hats and named the winner of the Food Legend/Long-Term Player award.
