As the kaitiaki of over 300,000 objects, the Museum preserves the rich social and natural history of Te Tauihu. Unboxed – The Collection Unpacked takes visitors behind the scenes, offering a rare chance to view objects that have never been on public display.

With each object carefully selected by the Museum's curators, Unboxed – The Collection Unpacked celebrates the Museum’s role in protecting and sharing history. Whether you're a history buff, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about what lies in the Museum's collection, this exhibition has something for everyone.

Exhibition Highlights:

-Portrait of Edward Green by Gottfried Lindauer – on public display for the first time ever.
-Ernest Rutherford’s satchel – a link to one of New Zealand’s most renowned scientists.
-Organ from visionary Nelsonian F. N. Jones and the beloved Coney Park.
-Botanical artworks by local artist Nina Jones.
-Nelson Rifle Volunteers Uniform – belonged to Cyprian Brereton, battalion commander of the Nelson 12th Regiment at Gallipoli during World War I.
-Vintage toys and a historic dolls’ house.
-Herbarium of grasses by John Buchanan, dating back to the 1880s.
-Pottery wheel and local ceramics belonging to Harry Davis, founder of Crewenna Potteries.
