This is a presentation by Alan McDermott, a 2025 Nuffield Scholar, and co-founder of Pearl Pastures, producer of Rose Veal, 'NZ's ethical meat choice'. Alan's background is in agriculture research and agribusiness - 8 years at AgResearch, 10 years at ANZCO Foods, then as an independent agribusiness consultant. This year he has travelled extensively overseas as part of his Nuffield Scholarship. and will share his findings from that experience. He'll also talk about Pearl Veal, why he started the business, what he's learnt along the way, and the challenges of doing things differently.
