Random Directions Film Festival 2025

The Random Directions Film Festival proudly champions filmmakers who don’t fit the mainstream mold - the underdogs, the first-timers, and the bold, low-budget creators with unique and quirky visions.

Our Film Festival is now in it's 7th year of celebrating locally made movies created in Te Tauihu – the Top of the South Island, NZ – and this year we bring you 18 locally made movies created in Te Tauihu by Nelson and Marlborough film makers.

The Random Directions Film Festivals has a particular focus on those that break the mold and offer unusal stories with creative twists that you just won't find in mainstream cinema, featuring a random array of shorts from horror to comedy, sci-fi to fantasy, there's something for everyone!

Join us for an entertaining night out as we celebrate local cinema and showcase the quirky, the unconventional, and those that just think differently!

Doors open at 5:30 PM for a meet and greet with photo ops - screening starts at 6:00 PM!

PLEASE NOTE: While each individual film holds an M rating - making the overall classification for the festival M and generally suitable for a broad audience - we personally recommend that anyone under the age of 16 depart at intermission. This is due to the inclusion of more mature M-rated content screening in the second half of the festival.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at randomdirectionsnz@gmail.com.
