In a mighty combination of two musical forces of nature, NBS Nelson City Brass will perform with organist Paul Rosoman for Organ Plus + an uplifting and exciting concert presentation at Nelson Cathedral. Featuring works that put the power and grandeur of both the pipe organ and brass band together, the rousing result is sure to thrill and delight.
NBS Nelson City Brass is one of the oldest brass bands in New Zealand, having been established in 1857 as part of the military, though its roots go back to 1841, and it is considered by many to be the country's first brass band. The band appointed Nigel Weeks as their Musical Director at the beginning of 2016. Nigel moved to Nelson at the start of 2016 to take up the position of Head of Music and Performing Arts at Nayland College and as Musical Director of NBS Nelson City Brass. Since joining the band, he has led them to three National Championships and subsequent promotion to 'A' Grade.
International concert organist Paul Rosoman was born and educated in New Zealand and is currently Director of Music at both St Luke’s Church, and Old St Paul’s in Wellington. He is also Artistic Director of the New Zealand International Organ Festival, and Director of Bayard Limited, a boutique artist and concert management company specialising in representing organists. As a concert organist, Paul tours in Europe each year, performing in major concert venues and festivals and also plays regularly in New Zealand. His recordings include “Great Organ”, recorded at St Peter’s on Willis in Wellington, and “Ciacona!”, the first commercial recording of the organ of Old St Paul’s in Wellington. Performances by Paul are regularly heard on the European radio station Organroxx.
Organ Plus + is a rare chance to see and experience the powerful combination of the king of instruments and brass – undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with!
