As part of Nelson Civic Choir’s 3 day programme entitled ‘Choralissimo’ we take a look at a selection of arias, duets and ensembles from some of the great choral works to be featured in the gala concerts on Saturday May 10th and Sunday May 11th as well as from other great choral masterpieces.

Surrounded and supported by the pillars of magnificent choruses, it is often in some of these beautifully written arias and ensembles that much of the story telling actually happens. The action is propelled forward, plots and storylines are laid bare, and emotions ranging from anger to despair, laughter to love, sorrow to joy and ecstasy to elation are all wrapped in exquisite melodies and rich harmonies.

Music Director – Jason Balla – presents a programme of beautiful vocal music from great choral masterpieces such as Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH, Haydn’s CREATION, Handel’s MESSIAH and many more. Joined by pianist Kyoko Takashima and singers Allison Cormack, Rosie McAllister, Rosemary Galton, Saul Gibney and others, this lunchtime recital is the perfect prelude to the weekend’s exciting gala concerts of choral and orchestral music from some of the greatest choral masterpieces ever written.
