First Golden Bay Solar Farm

This is a U3A presentation by Hamish Hills, a local dairy farmer who has worked with his family to set up the first solar farm in Golden Bay. It produces 1.43 MW, which supplies the energy needs of just over 300 houses. Although he grew up in Golden Bay, Hamish worked on construction management in Australia before returning home in 2017. As well as operating the solar farm and working as a dairy farmer, Hamish is an active participant in Golden Bay society: he is a Director for the Rural Service Centre, coaches rugby and is the vice-president of the Takaka Rugby Club. He is passionate about the environment and won the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Environmental Award.

U3A Golden Bay Mohua public talks are supported with funding from Tasman District Council Community Grant.
