Connecting Communities and Action on the Ground – Some thinking behind our work and action through community groups and Environmental Grants to protect indigenous wildlife in the Nelson Area.
The Science and Environment staff from NCC will team up with Stu Hanchet of Pipers Reserve to present some of the actions that are taking place for nature in the Nelson Region. Come and find out how you can get involved and learn some new tricks and connect with other trappers in the area. Phil Cochrane will provide a brief overview of the Nelson Wildlife Halo, highlighting community pest control projects and touch on some of NCC’s ongoing biodiversity monitoring. Stu Hanchet with then take a deep dive into the Pipers Halo and the importance of trapping and monitoring. He will also share some tips and tricks to collecting and utilizing your trapping data to refine your trapping project. Scott Butcher will discuss projects underway on our local coastal ecology restoration and protection. Rounding up the evening members of the Integrated Catchment Team will talk about their work program and enabling the community through their program of Environmental Grants.
