I will show you how to harvest, care and prepare harakeke to be used as the main material for our baskets. Then I will guide you through the whole process of making a small (but useful!) basket from the initial starting knot to finishing the top line. The techniques used are beginner friendly and my goal as a tutor is to ensure that you enjoy yourself, finish what you started and understand the process so you can make more! There will be natural as well as dyed harakeke provided for use. Once you have learned this technique you can easily use different materials or upscale from this project in the future. We will also talk about the cross-cultural history and uses of coiled basketry.
