In 2020, the Golden Bay MTB Club teamed up with the Department of Conservation to start building downhill trails on Tākaka Hill. Their goal? A network of three linked tracks running from the summit to Upper Tākaka, forming part of the Pikikirunga Trail.
Stage one is now open, a 3.7 km Grade 3 flow trail that starts at the Tākaka Hill Saddle and finishes at Horseshoe Bend. This video shares how the dream of riding from top to bottom became a reality.
An ambitious downhill trail project is underway on Tākaka Hill, with the Golden Bay MTB Club carving a route from the summit to Upper Tākaka. Work is already rolling, and we’ve gone behind the scenes to meet the crew making it happen.
