Wilsons Abel Tasman has released a short video sharing the story of the family behind one of the region’s most iconic tourism businesses — and their deep connection to the Abel Tasman National Park.

The Wilson family has called the area home for nine generations. When John and Lynette Wilson launched their first passenger boat service in Abel Tasman National Park in 1979, they continued a family legacy of farming, sailing, coastal trading and boat building that began in the mid-1800s.

The film traces that journey through to the present day, highlighting how the business has evolved while remaining anchored in responsible, sustainable tourism.

The idea for the video came directly from guests, who had been asking not only about the history of the family, but what the current generations are doing today — both within the business and in caring for the park they call home.

Filmed in November 2025, the video features four generations of the Wilson family and reflects on the partnerships and values that have shaped the company over nearly five decades. Sadly, Lynette Wilson, who appears in the film alongside her husband John, passed away in January 2026. The video now stands as a lasting reflection of her role in the family and the business.

The film is being released in chapters across Wilsons Abel Tasman’s social media channels, with the full video available online.
