Mahitahi Colab will officially open the doors to its new Tasman-based innovation hub on Tuesday 24 February, expanding its successful Nelson-based offering and creating a dedicated collaborative workspace for Tasman businesses and professionals.

The new site in Māpua builds on the strong foundation established in Nelson, responding to growing demand for flexible, professional workspaces that support changing work patterns. Together, the two locations will provide co-working memberships, hot desking and fully equipped meeting rooms across the Nelson Tasman region.

A defining feature of Mahitahi is its strong regional partnership model. Through collaboration with Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), Nelson Regional Development Agency (NRDA), and Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce (Chamber), members are connected directly into the wider business ecosystem. These partnerships provide pathways into training, events, business support, networking and growth initiatives — giving Tasman businesses access to opportunities that extend well beyond the walls of the hub.

Mahitahi Chair Russell Manning says the Māpua expansion reflects both the evolution of work and the importance of regional collaboration.

“Work patterns have fundamentally changed. More people are working remotely, running independent businesses, or seeking flexibility - but they still want connection,” says Manning. “Mahitahi exists to bring people together. By partnering across the regional ecosystem and operating as a not-for-profit, we can focus on building innovation and opportunity for the whole community, not just providing desks.”

Designed for modern, flexible ways of working, the Māpua hub will give Tasman-based entrepreneurs, remote workers and small businesses access to a high-quality collaborative environment closer to home — reducing the need to commute while strengthening local business connections.

The Māpua hub will offer:

As a not-for-profit organisation, Mahitahi reinvests all revenue back into the space, events, learning opportunities and innovation initiatives. This ensures the focus remains on strengthening regional capability and community outcomes, rather than generating private profit.

The opening of the Māpua hub strengthens the region’s innovation infrastructure, supports skilled professionals to live and work locally, and creates new opportunities for Tasman-based businesses to collaborate and grow.
