The Involution track is nestled in the Barnicoat Range that backdrops Marsden Valley, and is a grade 3 intermediate track that can be ridden in either direction. Holding the title as the second longest continuously descending single-track within close range of any city in New Zealand, this spectacular forest ride is truly a Nelson Classic.
It takes about 60 to 90 minutes to ride up, and about 20-30 to ride down, so is a great option for those who want a good dose of adrenaline, but don’t want to spend the whole day on their bike. The track twists through native bush, navigates tight switchbacks, zig-zags around the hill face and descends rapidly to shallow creek crossings.
How to get there: Head to the top of Marsden Road just before the quarry gate, cross the bridge to your right and follow the gravel road for 80m. Here you’ll find a fork in the road - veer left to ride up Involution, or right if you want to ascend Barnicoat Road and experience Involution downhill instead.
