There are two companies which provide certification services for businesses, individuals and events to measure, calculate and then offset their carbon footprint to help reduce the impacts of climate change in New Zealand.

EKOS Certifications:

  • Zero Carbon: means a business has measured and offset 100% of the C02 emissions from all operating activities
  • Climate Positive: this means the business has committed to offsetting at least 120% of their measured C02 emissions
  • Carbon Friendly: not all businesses have the information or funds they need to do a full footprint measurement, or to go Zero Carbon just yet.  But these businesses are doing their best by measuring their emissions and offsetting what they can
  • Carbon Footprint: this is the first step in moving towards Zero Carbon. Ekos is helping these businesses calculate their C02 footprint, providing then with detailed carbon footprint report of emissions, highlighting hotspots and providing strategies for effective reductions

All Companies who are certified with EKOs Must:

  • Measure and reduce their carbon footprint every year
  • Offset what they can’t eliminate by buying carbon credits from approved carbon projects
  • These credits go towards developing projects that grow and protect indigenous forests. This ensures projects are robust, fair, and deliver a range of benefits including: biodiversity conservation, erosion control, water quality enhancement, & community development.

Toitū Certifications:

  • Toitū carbonreduce: businesses are measuring their C02 emissions and have put in place strategies to manage and reduce impacts.
  • Toitū carbonzero: businesses are measuring their C02 emissions, have put in place strategies to manage, reduce and offset their impacts

  • Swimming – at Marahau, tahuna beach,
  • Day walks – Centre of NZ, Brook Sanctuary,
  •  Stand up paddleboarding, waka, fly a kite, more biking, mtb,
  •  Taste local beer, wine cider, cheese, icecream

  •  Piick up rubbish!!
  • Use your own coffee cup
  • Refill your water bottle
  • Volunteer activities eg with DOC, Birdsong Trust, Brook Sanctuary

Take your time, go slow and see the sights at the perfect pace.

Enjoy unique experiences and connect with nature every day. Fall in love with Nelson Tasman in ways that make you feel great while leaving a light footprint.
