Salisbury Falls is featured in Peter Jackson’s famous trilogies and is the film site where Tauriel and Legolas meet before heading into Lake-town in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Named after the Salisbury family, who were attracted to the area during the 1860 gold rush, these beautiful waterfalls are located in the Aorere River in Golden Bay. During summer, you’ll often find people swimming at the base of the waterfall or sunbathing on the rocks above.
How to get there: Salisbury Falls is located 30 minutes from the Collingwood township, on the way toward the Heaphy Track. Parking is available on the side of the road, and a short 5-minute walk will take you to the river.
