Mohua/Mōhuahua is a rare endemic bird of bright yellow feathers that was once abundant in the area and gives Mohua its name. This is also where the old iwi Ngāti Tūmatakōkiri near Te Matau (Separation Point) had the fatal clash with Abel Tasman’s crew.
