Winter Wassail at Peckham's Cidery & Orchard

Lanterns, cider, music, firelight, and a centuries-old orchard tradition. Join us for Peckham's annual Wassail, a magical winter celebration where we gather to wake the apple trees and wish for a fruitful harvest in the year ahead.

Dating back centuries, wassailing is a traditional English custom where communities gather in orchards to sing, toast the trees, and awaken them from their winter slumber, wishing for a bountiful harvest in the coming season. It is a celebration of community, nature, and the connection between people and the land.

Set amongst the apple trees at Peckham's, our annual Wassail invites you to experience this unique tradition for yourself. As the afternoon fades into evening, gather with us in the orchard to share songs, stories, warm cider, and seasonal festivities as we honour the trees that make our cider possible.

The celebrations begin at 3.30pm with delicious food available, cider, folk music, and good company before we gather for the traditional Wassail ceremony. As dusk settles over the orchard, we'll lead a lantern-lit procession among the trees, making as much noise as possible to wake the trees and drive away any evil spirits that might threaten the coming harvest.

We encourage everyone to bring a saucepan, pot lid, wooden spoon, or any other noise-making instrument to join in this centuries-old tradition. The louder the better!

The main Wassail ceremonies will start at 4.30pm and take place before 6pm, after which you are welcome to enjoy more food and cider, with plenty of opportunities to gather around the fire and enjoy the atmosphere of a community coming together in the heart of winter.

Whether you're a long-time cider enthusiast, a lover of local traditions, or simply looking for a memorable winter experience, our Wassail offers a chance to celebrate the rich heritage of cider making.

To keep the event intimate and true to the spirit of the tradition, numbers are limited to just 100 guests. We recommend booking early to avoid missing out on this special winter celebration.

Wrap up warm, gather your friends and family, and join us for an evening of music, merriment, and orchard magic.

Here's to a fruitful harvest and good cider to come!

Please note: This is an outdoor event. Dress warmly and bring suitable footwear for walking in wet grass in the orchard. Family-friendly. Children free entry with an adult ticket. Don't forget your pots and pans. Traditional wassailing attire encouraged!
