Wallace Cross-Country and Shield Series: Race 1

Meet on Moturoa / Rabbit Island at the “Old Domain” picnic area on 18 April 2026 for the first of a fun, three-event, cross-country series with four entry options:

- 3-Lap Walkers (5km)
- 3-Lap Runners (5km)
- 2-Laps (3.4km)
- 1-Lap (1.7km) - Parents / Caregivers are welcome to run this lap with their younger children.

All events in this series are free and open to everyone.
Registration is from 1.30pm - 2:15pm.
Race start 2.30pm. Everyone starts together, running along the beach from the ‘Old Domain’ towards Tāhunanui, up onto the dunes and back to the picnic area.

Wallace Shield Challenge Race 1: Guess Your Time:
In this event 3-Lap participants run or walk without watches or phones. At registration / check-in give your estimated time for running or walking this 5km. The winner is the person whose finish time is closest to their estimated time.

NOTE: Those running/walking only 1 or 2 Laps do not submit a "guess your time". All finish times will however, be recorded as usual.

While only Waimea Harriers members are eligible to win the Wallace Shield, anyone can test themselves on the challenges with the aim of taking the series' 3-Lap line honours.
