UK act **Good Habits** return, with their newly expanded line up, to New Zealand - where they found themselves stranded in 2020 and 2021. The tour of venues across the country, follows a whirlwind month in Australia which will see them performing at venues & festivals across Australia including Woodford Folk Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival and Illawarra Folk Festival. Both the Australian and New Zealand tours are in celebration of the release of their new album, ‘Better for Now’.
Featured Album of the Month by KLOF Magazine UK:
"...one of the most exciting bands on the British folk scene right now, as well as one of the most technically accomplished." - KLOF MAG
Released on 9 October 2026, Better for Now is the most emotionally expansive and sonically ambitious album Good Habits have made to date. Their first recording, featuring their new addition of drums (Jennifer Walinetski), blends soaring vocals, cello, accordion, synth and an amazing percussive array. The band beautifully blur the boundaries between folk, indie, jazz and alternative pop into a sound that is entirely their own.
Better for Now is a personal account of life as independent artists. Written by Bonnie Schwarz and Pete Shaw, the album captures the exhilarating highs and inevitable uncertainties of building a creative life together. It reflects the joy of doing things on their own terms, the challenge of working in an ill-fitting industry and the resilience it takes to keep moving forward.
Returning to where it all began, and further
Bonnie and Pete trace the band’s roots to 2020, when the pair became stranded in Aotearoa New Zealand during the pandemic. With only each other, their instruments and a music community glad to have them, they toured the country relentlessly, nomads full of gratitude and adventure. Two years later they came home and threw themselves into the UK music scene, committed to keeping the band going after what felt like a fever dream.
Every return since has taken them further. In 2024 they made their Australian debut at Port Fairy Folk Festival and played WOMAD Aotearoa, a performance they had long dreamed of. Since then they have played Glastonbury Festival and supported Australia’s Fanny Lumsden in the UK. In 2027 they come back with an expanded lineup, a new album and a run of dates that includes Woodford, Cygnet and Illawarra Folk Festivals and a full tour of New Zealand.
