Philip Garnock-Jones Author Talk

Nelson botanist and amateur photographer Phil Garnock-Jones spent a decade photographing native flowers, close-up and in stereo for his book He Puāwai, a Natural History of New Zealand Flowers (Auckland University Press, 2025). He will explain his interest in flowers, describe his photographic techniques, and tell some stories about extraordinary New Zealand flowers, including some from local mountains, wetlands, and forests.

Short listed for an Ockham New Zealand Book Award He Puāwai describes and explains 100 native flowers, chosen to represent the range of colours and shapes, pollination mechanisms, and sexual strategies of our flora. It includes over 500 stereo pair photographs with a folding 3D viewer in a pocket inside the back cover.

Page & Blackmore will be here with Phil’s gorgeous book, available to purchase at $80.00 each.
