With an appetite for adventure Gerry Clark sailed to Australia and back, followed by a 3,000-kilometre journey circumnavigating New Zealand. His adventures continued when he built a larger boat which was strong enough to withstand the worst of the chilly Southern Ocean. He then set sail on an expedition that would circumnavigate Antarctica and last more than three and a half years. Voyaging to the deep south became an obsession. His passion for sea birds was the rationale for his journeys.
