We invite you to spend time with us Remembering Parihaka Day and reflecting on what this means for our community. In a documentary made in 2021, which we will screen, Dr Ruakere Hond speaks on the past of Parihaka and what this could mean for the future. He asks what Peace events happen in our communities and reminds us ‘Hoki atu ki ō koutou kāinga Parihaka mai ai’. Return to your homes and find Parihaka there. Find the way in which these principles of peace can be maintained into the future in your communities.
Ruakere encourages us all to work as communities and to find our Parihaka-tanga in this day and age, and for the future of our tamariki and our mokopuna.
Nga Manu Korihi: Parihaka Network mai Whakatu member Rex Hunt says 'When we stay connected to our past, share it, attempt to understand it, we can move forward with more unity, respect, and most importantly non violence'.
Connect with us, share some kai (provided), consider and discuss what our responses are.
All welcome, nau mai haere mai.
