Kahukura Ao Lelei is a children’s Te Reo Māori play written by Renee Kahukura Iosefa and presented by Taki Rua Productions for its 2026 Te Reo Tātarakihi tour.

The story follows the characters Kahukura and Ao Lelei on an adventure focused on looking after te taiao (the environment), proving that even the smallest individuals can make a massive difference.

The play is performed entirely in te reo Māori, but it is directed with rich movement, comedy, and visual storytelling so that audiences of all language fluencies can easily follow along. Perfect for the whole whānau.

Renee Kahukura Iosefa is a prominent Motueka-based Māori storyteller, journalist, and digital producer who frequently collaborates on regional arts and storytelling projects.
