'Edge' represents the combined works of seven students from the Centre for Fine Woodworking. All have spent 8 months full-time in the Furniture Maker’s Programme. The programme runs with 4 terms, each taught by tutors of national and international renown, in a dedicated workshop facility of the highest quality.

The students are encouraged from early on to develop their own design vocabulary alongside growing confidence in mastering the complex craft of fine woodworking. The results are a wide ranging display of different styles and approaches, using a variety of beautiful timbers, but underpinned by a search for quality and integrity in the making process. There is a joyous vitality in so much of the work, and the exhibition is an opportunity to acquire furniture of great beauty and refinement at prices that often barely reflect the time, materials and skills represented.

The title 'Edge' was chosen because the edge is where the students find courage – where raw timber meets the chisel, where hesitation meets decision. This exhibition stands at the edge of possibility, where the students step forward as makers, leaving behind the uncertain and crossing into mastery.
