Considering a Te Tiriti Honouring Approach to Language Learning Polici

In this presentation for Mahuru Māori, Elizabeth Hamilton will be sharing the findings of her Masters of Indigenous Studies research project.

Elizabeth’s research was based in Whakatū Nelson and investigated the demand for te reo Māori as an essential language for migrants and former refugees to learn from arrival in Aotearoa New Zealand. The research critiques the current resettlement strategies for migrants and former refugees and considers the place of te reo Māori learning as one aspect of decolonising the resettlement process for newcomers. This presentation will discuss the research project and share the key findings and recommendations.
