Katie Ben is an anaesthetist for Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough, but she is also the lead clinical advisor for the Assisted Dying Service and has been providing assisted dying services throughout the South Island since 2022. Assisted dying has been legal in New Zealand since the Act was voted in at the referendum and became operational at the end of 2021.

This talk and powerpoint presentation will look at who accesses the service and why, the eligibility criteria, and the reasons for being found not eligible. Illustrations of clinical examples are based on an amalgamation of patients applying and do not relate to individual applications. There will be lots of time for questions.
