The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary
The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is the largest fenced Sanctuary for endangered plants and creatures in the South Island, only 10-minute drive from Nelson’s CBD!
With an estimated 2,700 NZ native species either threatened or endangered due to factors such as introduced mammalian pests, fenced Sanctuaries provide a safe haven for threatened species, giving them a chance to not just survive, but thrive. Thanks to a dedicated volunteer network of over 400, as well as support from several key partners, the Sanctuary can continue to pursue its goal of restoring an ecosystem and bringing nature back to Nelson City's doorstep.
There’s no better time to get involved in one way or another with the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary! Be sure to visit them or head to www.brooksanctuary.org.nz to learn more about how you can support conservation in action.
