The Canaan Downs Big Loop track is a scenic, recreational ride near the top of the Takaka Hill, taking in native bush and elevated views. The 14km loop wraps around the Canaan Downs Farm and can be ridden in either direction (although riding clockwise up to the Wainui Saddle is recommended by locals).

The big loop is grade 3, although there are shorter and less technical options in the area including the Gold Creek Family Loop, or for those looking for something a bit more challenging, the Rameka Track is also accessible from here.

How to get there: As you ascend the Takaka Hill, turn off onto Canaan Road and continue driving until you see the trail signposts at the end of the road.
