- Beaches & Bays
The sheltered pebble beach of Ruby Bay is located between Mapua and the Kina Peninsula. A popular beach with the locals, Ruby Bay gets its name from the red jasper rocks that turn the beach a slight shade of red.
The summer months see holiday-makers flock to the McKee Domain, setting up camp just a few steps from the beach, whilst winter brings campfires, marshmallows and late nights spent watching the glistening lights of Nelson City from across the bay. A shrouded grotto across the road from the beach is also a highlight, where you can often find glow-worms.
