Spectacular views over the Golden Bay landscape can be found at The Grove Scenic Reserve. One of the area’s hidden gems, a magical journey through limestone outcrops and under the canopy of northern rātā somewhat resembles a childhood fairy-tale or a scene from Jurassic Park.

The karst walls that enclose the path create a labyrinth of intriguing natural architecture. Children will enjoy spotting the fascinating array of faces and shapes that appear to have developed in some of New Zealand’s oldest rocks – formed over 400 million years ago. After just 10 minutes of walking, the track ends as you ascend a staircase to the viewing platform. Nestled into the rocky landscape, you’ll be treated to panoramic scenery of the lower Takaka Valley.

How to get there: The Grove Scenic Reserve is just a few kilometres from the Takaka township, in Clifton. There is a carpark at the beginning of the walk.
