Waka Tours Abel Tasman

Paddling the stunning coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park on board a Waka (Māori canoe) is a truly unique cultural experience.

Your trip will begin and end with a blessing (karakia) for protection, and you'll get to experience and share in the treasured heritage of our tūpuna (ancestors), gliding through the picturesque waterways of the Abel Tasman on board one of our double or single hulled outrigger canoes.

Your experienced guide will share stories of our unique heritage, and of our ancestors who sailed the Pacific Ocean for thousands of years. As the only form of transport across oceans and waterways, waka were vital to our travel and trade.

A trip suitable for all ages, you'll venture out to Split Apple Rock (Toka Ngawhā), a beautiful, atmospheric place and one of the Abel Tasman coastline's most iconic spots. But stunning scenery and extraordinary memories isn't all you'll take away from your waka journey - the easy, three-hour return trip will show you just how empowering membership of a waka crew can be.

We can also create customised trips along the Abel Tasman coastline - just contact us and we'll see what we can do!
