70 Beach Road, Nelson Central
The Spooner’s Tunnel tour is a marvellous day ride which takes you on a downhill adventure through forest, farms, a train tunnel and along meandering rivers. This is the southern hemisphere’s longest disused rail tunnel at almost 1.4 km long.

We’ll transfer you from our base in Tahunanui (or Nelson Airport) to the charming Flat Rock Café, the perfect starting point for your adventure. From here, enjoy a flowing 50 km journey along the Great Taste Trail back to Nelson - a mostly downhill ride that lets you relax and soak in the scenery. One of the highlights is riding through Spooner’s Tunnel. From there, the trail takes you across swing bridges, through pockets of native forest & alongside lush farmland sprinkled with historic buildings that tell stories of the region’s past. The enticing aroma of fresh hops often inspires riders to finish the with a with a visit to one of Nelson’s celebrated craft beer venues, conveniently near the trail end - perfect spots to toast your ride.
