Arts & Culture

Creative people thrive here and that’s reflected in Nelson Tasman’s abundant and surprisingly diverse arts and artisans community. We have a proud history and a legacy of creative output, as you can see if you visit our Suter Gallery, Founders Park, or Nelson Provincial Museum.

Many of our celebrated artists, sculptors, jewellers, potters and ceramic artists have studios you can visit or are represented at galleries around the region. We can pretty much guarantee your carry-on luggage will include at least one or two pieces bought during your stay (and we’re always happy to arrange shipping for more).

Nelson Tasman has a diverse calendar of festivals and events throughout the year including highlights such as Light Nelson, the Adam Chamber Music Festival, Opera in the Park, the Jazz Festival and the Nelson Arts Festival. There are so many we’re spoilt for choice – there’s something great happening at pretty much any time of year.

A snapshot of the region’s creative output can be found at the Nelson Saturday Market and Motueka Sunday Market. These markets run weekly throughout the year.
