Three National Parks

You can reach not one, but three national parks within 90 minutes of Nelson City. Kahurangi National Park, Nelson Lakes National Park and our world-famous Abel Tasman National Park are all within easy reach of Nelson City and Motueka and are enjoyable places to be all year round.

We’re about far more than golden sandy beaches. Our walkways and scenic reserves offer protected and pristine national environments in which you can take a day walking or kayaking from the ordinary to the extraordinary.

Nelson Lakes National Park provides a beautiful alpine landscape in winter and nearby Murchison is fantastic for white water rafting and jet boating.

From Farewell Spit to Rainbow Ski Field to Te Waikoropupu Springs to the Heaphy Track you’ll never be short of a stunning natural landscape to enjoy in Nelson Tasman.

From the end of the jetty you can look out at the stunning alpine landscape and majestic mountains surrounding the Nelson Lakes.

Explore the golden beaches, turquoise blue waters and luscious green forests of the extraordinary Abel Tasman your way - by foot, by kayak, by boat or by air.

The second largest National Park in New Zealand and home to the Heaphy Track, Kahurangi is every hikers dream. Whilst most of the park is untouched wilderness, other areas are laced with walking tracks that allow you to explore flowing rivers, high plateaus and coastal forests.
