Join us on our fascinating walking tours into the ancient heart of the Abel Tasman National Park. Get off the beaten track into the ancient Gondwanan beech forest of the upper Wainui Valley. Enjoy rich bird and plant life, amazing scenery and rugged pioneering history. Moderate walking ability required.
An incredible walking tour through ‘the promised land’: a stunning van ride up the Takaka hill and through the fabled Canaan Downs, famous for its part in ‘Lord of the Rings’ and known worldwide for the Gathering and Luminate festivals held there.
A walk from the road end to Wainui hut takes us through ancient Gondwanan beech forests filled with a diversity of birds. This is the last bastion of our native parrots the Kaka and Kakariki in the park and they can be spotted in the wild or if we are lucky in the aviary, ready for their release, to bolster the wild populations.
Learn about the history, flora and fauna of this stunning corner of New Zealand and hear the story of Project Janszoon, working hard to restore the park to its former glory.
$3 per ticket on this tour goes to conservation in the park. We contribute to Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust, Tasman Bay Guardians and The Abel Tasman Tree Collective.
Combine this tour with our Golden Future Boat Tour over two days for the ultimate nature experience in the Top of the South.
We offer pickups from Nelson, Motueka, Riwaka, Kaiteriteri, and Marahau.
