The Shearer's Cottage is a newly built cottage on the site of an old shearing shed. While being part of The Pear Orchard Lodge operation, the 36m2 cottage is very private and fully self-contained. Sleeps a maximum of 4 guests.

Inside, modern style meets country charm. The cottage comprises a small kitchen, a dining/living area and a separate bedroom (with queen or twin single beds) with ensuite bathroom. The living area has a sofa bed and a small wood fire.

The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, a mini-oven, toaster, fridge and cooking and dinnerware for up to 4 people.

Large multi-fold doors open from the dining area to a private terrace with bbq. Enjoy the views over regenerating native bush with the Kahurangi Range in the distance.

Guests of the Shearer's Cottage have access to a rustic outdoor bath amidst the regenerating bush. Enjoy a soak in the hot bath while watching our native Tui suckle on the surrounding flax flowers!

The cottage is designed for guests who prefer a bit more space and privacy, and is ideal for families travelling with children.

While purposely rough and rustic on the outside, the Shearer's Cottage is very well insulated and built to a high spec inside. The design is inspired by the local vernacular and refined to blend in with other outbuildings around the farm.

The building's shape and exterior, with its ramshackle patchwork of old corrugated iron, hand-made carpentry detailing and overhanging roof lines, interprets the old shearing shed that once stood on its site.

As we have a few animals on the farm, we ask that you leave gates as you find them. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like with the animals.
