Moutere Hills

The picturesque inland highway links Nelson city to its rural surrounds.

Art galleries, wineries, roadside fruit stalls and gourmet food producers are scattered throughout the pristine landscape.

The historic village of Upper Moutere is home to many creative and productive people. Leading ceramic artists, sculptors and wood workers have chosen to live here. Gourmet mushrooms, strawberries, olives and other fruit are grown in these hills. You can sample the locally made craft beers, wines and ciders at New Zealand’s oldest pub, the Moutere Inn, established in 1850 .

Take your time to drive through the countryside, stopping to enjoy the many offerings along the way.
