Game Day Nelson

Nelson is excited to be hosting the All Blacks vs Argentina Investec Rugby Championship test match at Trafalgar Park on 8th September and we can now reveal that we have something extra special happening alongside this major event!

With Nelson being the birthplace of rugby in New Zealand in 1870, it is only fair that we celebrate the historic occasion of our first ever All Blacks test match with a BIG pre-game street party in the Nelson CBD for everyone to experience and enjoy, whether they are going to the game or not.

Experience Rugby History and join the All Blacks VS Argentina game day festivities in Nelson CBD on Saturday 8th September from 1-5:30pm! Treat yourself and your family to Kiwi and Argentinian culture, local artisan food, history, entertainment and a dedicated family area.

Upper Trafalgar street will be closed to vehicles and a main entertainment stage is confirmed for 1903 Square with a range of cultural entertainment and high energy performances.

Explore the shops, galleries, cafes, bars and restaurants then make your way to the game to celebrate Rugby History! Alternatively, if you don’t have a ticket, stay in town to watch it at one of the many CBD bars and restaurants.

From the 24th August, there will be a dedicated Game Day section on the Nelson App with information and updates regarding the game and the CBD festivities. Keep an eye on this webpage too as we will update it with hot of the press news and updates in the lead up to the game!

This is a not to be missed event for the community and visitors to come together to celebrate this historic occasion, whilst having fun with the whole family and enjoying our beautiful Nelson CBD.

Download the Nelson App now and keep an eye out for the Game Day section, which will go live on August 24th. The app will be a handy source for all Game Day information and updates, plus special features on the history of rugby in Nelson and more opportunities to win exciting prizes!
