Open 364 days of the year and attracting more than 40,000 annual visitors, the National WOW Museum is one of Nelson Tasman’s must-see attractions.
The museum features an array of wearable art garments from New Zealand’s single largest annual theatrical event, the World of WearableArt Show, alongside one of the largest private classic car collections in Australasia. It truly is a collision of two distinctly different worlds in which design, innovation and limitless creativity is celebrated.
The Museum’s current exhibition of finalist garments from the 2017 World of WearableArt Awards Show, Six Worlds of WOW 2017, showcases more than 50 garments by 60 designers from 11 countries, including the winner of the 2017 Supreme WOW Award and other major prize winners. Only in Nelson Tasman can you really appreciate the artistic skill and detailing that has gone into creating these magnificent, one-of-a-kind garments.
The exhibition epitomises the heart of WOW – that anything can find a place on stage, as long as it is original, innovative and exceptional. WOW attracts some of the most creative people from Nelson Tasman and around the world, working at the cutting edge of fashion, art, design, costume and theatre, alongside students and first-time enthusiasts. WOW is a license to play, explore and experiment with resources and processes, with entrants using unexpected materials to create highly sophisticated garments, incorporating everything from artisan craftsmanship to futuristic fabrication technologies.
The Six Worlds of WOW 2017 exhibition will be on display until November 2018.
