Datacom began in 1965 in Christchurch, becoming a national IT services company by 1971. 

Datacom crossed the Tasman in 1994 establishing a contact centre business in Sydney, and over the last 20 years its continued growth and success in New Zealand and Australia has allowed Datacom Group to serve many more customers, including  ASB, Air New Zealand, Nelson City Council, Sealord and New Zealand Post, and to surpass the milestones of 5000 staff and $1B annual turnover. Datacom remains proudly New Zealand owned, offering services and solutions to support businesses with their existing IT processes as well as connecting them with new ways of doing clever business.

Datacom has been active in Nelson Tasman for 12 years, having had people on the ground in the region since 2009. The local team is now 30 strong, and Datacom Nelson has contributed to the region’s development through support of Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce, Nelson Cycle Trust, Gigatown, NRDA, HackNelson, Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, and STEAM education for young people.

“The story of Datacom Nelson is about local engagement, gradual growth, demonstrating value rather than talking about it, long-term relationships, and leveraging national capability for the benefit of local businesses,” says Matthew Dodd, Datacom Regional Leader for the Top of the South. “Our local crew has grown steadily from one to 30 people and we are all passionate Nelson Tasman folk who love living here and want to help the region prosper.
