Race 1. Waimea Harriers Wallace Shield Cross Country Series

Meet on Moturoa / Rabbit Island at the “Old Domain” picnic area on 29 March 2025 for the first of a fun, three-event, cross-country series with three distances:

- Adult & high school runners: 5k (3 laps)
- Walkers: 3.4k (2 laps)
- Intermediate/Primary/Kindy Runners: Choice of 1.7k (1 lap), 2 laps or 3 laps.

Points are awarded at each event and members of Waimea Harriers compete for the coveted Wallace Shield. These are free events and everyone and all abilities are welcome.

This first event in the series is "Guess your time" - run without watches & phones.

Registration is from 1.30pm. Give your estimated time for running 1.7km, 3.4km or 5km or walking 3.4km at registration.

Race briefing 2.20pm. Race start 2.30pm.

The winner is the person closest to their estimated time, e.g. the person closest gets 1 point, next closest 2 points etc. After the 19th closest, everyone is given 20 points. The aim is to get the least number of points as possible over the three races in the series.

Everyone starts together at 2:30pm, running along the beach from the ‘Old Domain’ towards Tāhunanui.

The 2025 Wallace Shield Series is on the following Saturdays - 29 March, 5 April and 12 April.

While everyone is welcome to take part in the challenges, only Waimea Harriers are eligible for the Wallace Shield. Join the club for $40 individual or $60 couple/family at www.waimeaharriers.nz. Children & youth students can join the club for free.
