The Nelson Regional Development Agency (NRDA) is a Council-Controlled Organisation, established on 1 July 2016 and is 100% owned by the Nelson City Council (NCC). While NCC is our core funding provider, we are also funded by the Tasman District Council (TDC) through an agreement of expectations and funding for economic development services with NCC. We are governed by a highly-competent, private sector-focused board and our directors are appointed by NCC.
Our activity has a combined Nelson Tasman regional focus and is guided by the expectations and performance measures set out in our Statement of Intent (SOI) which is revised annually.
The Nelson Regional Development Agency exists to enhance the sustainable economic vitality of the Nelson Tasman region.
To partner with the public and private sectors in the attraction and retention of extraordinary talent, visitors and investment who want to add value to the identity of the Nelson Tasman region.
By inspiring others to share our Extraordinary Nelson Tasman Identity story and experiences through inspiring new thinking and behaviours.
What We Do
The five pillars of the Nelson Tasman Regional Identity provide the strategic framework for everything we do.
We have three main areas of activity:
Investment & Talent Attraction & Retention: Development and strengthening of the region’s case for investment and talent attraction and retention.
Business Development and Innovation: Inspiring and supporting existing and new businesses and business people to think differently, embrace new behaviours, and grow.
Destination Management: Inspiring the sharing and delivery of the Extraordinary Nelson Tasman identity story and experience across the spectrum of investment, visitors and talent.
These three areas of focus are built on a strong platform of public and private sector partnerships to build stakeholder engagement, achieve alignment, and drive our role in strategy execution.
